The Football League are to take legal action against Hammonds Solicitors for negligence or breach of contract. Hammonds advised them on the deal with ITV Digital.

The deal, which collapsed when ITV Digital went into administration, left many League clubs struggling financially as they still owed £178.5 million for the rest of their contract with the league. The money has never been recovered, and a previous lawsuit against ITV parent companies Carlton and Granada failed, when it was decided that ITV Digital was a seperate entity from them.

This case will be vigorously contasted by Hammonds, but League clubs will be hoping that a successful lawsuit will result in some funds filtering through to them.
