Robertson happy to fit in for Gulls

Usually employed as a centre-back, the 24-year-old Scot has been drafted in as a makeshift right-sided defender in recent games as this position has been a problem for the Gulls this season, with skipper Lee Mansell, who usually plays in midfield, slotting into the role beforehand.

Robertson told the club's official website: "If the gaffer (Paul Buckle) wants me to do a job at right-back, I am happy to play there but he knows, and I know that I am a centre-back by trade.

"We have been playing really solid recently and we don't need full-backs pushing on too much, and the gaffer is happy for me to hold the position. It has been effective of late and I want to play for Torquay, whatever the position.

"It is a challenge when you have a one-on-one situation with a winger, especially when there's a lot of space behind you. You have to try and prevent him from getting a cross into the box."

United next face play-off rivals Gillingham at home on Saturday and Robertson added: "It will be another tough game against Gillingham. It is a strange division where every team can beat each other but we definitely need to start beating the teams around us in the league to make life easier for ourselves."
