Recovery almost Complete
Lee Canoville is expected to have recovered from his ankle injury for tomorrow's relegation battle at Stcokport County tomorrow.Canoville, who picked up his injury in the game at home to Sheffield Wednesday, is expected to slot straight back into his right-back position to complete the promotion winning back four for the first time since the game at home to Hull City on August 10th. That is a long time to go without a set back four, and with a lack of goals being converted up front, solidity at the back is even more important.
His replacement for the duration of his injury has been Tony Bedeau, who has fitted into the role well, but Canoville's return allows Bedeau into a more attacking position. Although it is feasible that Bedeau could go onto the right wing and Phillips on to the left, with Jo Kuffour moving up front, it is more likely that Bedeau will be a straight replacement for Phillips on the right wing, adding a bit more strength and defensive nous, in a game United can ill-afford to lose.
The central midfield area is two from three at the moment, with Hockley, Meireles and Wardley contesting for the two available positions. With Hockley having started every match so far this season and Meireles having started the last two, it is unlikely that Wardley will be able to oust either until he achieves full fitness.
Up front, United are likely to remain unchanged with little options available following the injury to Akinfenwa, although questions have to be asked regarding Kain Bond following Leroy Roseniors decision to replace Stuart Noble with Gareth Owen, a defender, in the last two matches. If Bond is not regarded as good enough by the manager, should he have been offered a pro contract?
Probable Line Up: van Heusden; Canoville, McGlinchley, Taylor, Woods; Bedeau, Hockley, Meireles, Kuffour; Gritton and Noble. Subs: Phillips, Owen, Villis, Bond and Dearden
