Leroy's Been to Iceland

Torquay United have acquired 36 year old Icelandic goalkeeper Olafur Gottskalksson on trial.

Gottskalksson, who has been linked with non-league Margate this season, was last seen in league football back in January 2002, with Saturday's opponents Brentford. Gottskalksson was dropped after five straight defeats, replaced by rookie Paul Smith. The team then went on a run of one defeat in fourteen, culminating with Brentford reaching the play-off final, where they lost 2-0 to Stoke City. Gottskalksson was on the bench. This was not his only taste of finals.

In the 2000/01 season, the 6'3" 'keeper signing from Scottish Premier League side Hibernian, helped Brentford reach the finals of the LDV Trophy, losing 2-1 to Port Vale.

He signed for Hibernian in a £200,000 deal from IB Keflavik, and although relegated from the SPL, he played a major role in the following campaign to help the Edinburgh based club to the Scottish Division One Championship in 1998/99.

How ironic if his first game in over two years is to be against his former club this Saturday.
