Former QPR midfielder joins Gulls
United are taking a look at former Queens Parker Rangers and Rushden & Diamonds midfielder Stuart Wardley.Wardley, who has not played first team football since the end of the 2002/03 season, is a midfielder who set the football world alight following his rise from non-league obscurity with Saffron Walden to goalscoring heroics with QPR in 1999.
During his first season at Loftus Road, Wardley scored 14 goals, three of which were against Torquay in the FA Cup 3rd Round including two in the replay which ended 3-2 to Rangers. He suffered a dip in form during his second season, scoring only 3 in 37 games, where QPR were relegated from the First Division.
During the next season, Wardley joined Rushden and Diamonds on loan, scored against United again, and helped Rushden to the Third Division play-off final, losing to Cheltenham. His move became permanent and the following season Rushden gained automatic promotion as Champions, (he scored another goal in a 3-0 victory over Torquay - other goalscorers were Duane Darby and Paul Hall!), which is where injury halted his career.
He is now looking to get his career on track, and Torquay would certainly welcome Stuart Wardley in form and injury free.
